Any future public parades to show support for Samoa's national rugby league team now have to apply for a permit from the Ministry of Police Prisons and Corrections Services.

Public parades supporting Toa Samoa which are held without a Ministry-issued permit will be stopped and the public disbanded.

The instructions to the public from the Ministry were issued last Friday, amid continued public vehicle street parades by Samoan fans of the Toa Samoa, which will lock horns with Tonga at 3.30am Monday morning (Samoa local time) in the Rugby League World Cup quarterfinals.

"The public is hereby advised that the Samoa Police, Prisons and Corrections Services enforces that any organisation or club that wishes to conduct a vehicle parade to support our Toa Samoa rugby league team, must apply and obtain a permit from the SPPCS before hand," reads the Ministry's public notice.

"The SPPCS will intervene and cease any parades without a permit. The public is hereby advised that the inappropriate use of our national flags as observed in previous parades is prohibited.

"Furthermore, the parades should be conducted according to the permit's conditions for the safety of everyone involved. The safety and welfare of our people are our main priorities."

Last Saturday there was another vehicle parade in Apia's centre business centre with Toa Samoa and Tonga supporters joining to celebrate their teams making the quarterfinals of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.

Close to 100 vehicles gathered at Beach Road on Saturday afternoon with supporters waving Samoan and Tongan flags and shouting out their teams' names as their vehicles followed the convoy.
