Cabinet makes new P.S.C. appointments
The Cabinet has appointed Nonu Lemauga Saleimoa Vaai to Chair the Public Service Commission (P.S.C.) as well as added two other Commissioners to the panel.
Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa confirmed during a press conference on Friday the elevation of Nonu to the Chairman position replacing Lauano Vaosa Epa who resigned from office last week.
She also welcomed two other Commissioners to complete the full membership of the Commission: Fonoti Perelini Perelini and Gatoloaifaana Tilianamua Afamasaga.
Fonoti is the Chief Technical Advisor for the IMPRESS Project and has worked as a consultant in various parts of the Pacific region and is the former president of the Institute of Professional Engineers in Samoa (I.P.E.S.).
Gatoloai is an educator and is the Chair of the Samoa Qualifications Authority (S.Q.A.) and the President of the Samoa Workers Congress.
The new Commissioner's term in office will end after three years.
Fiame said since the resignation of the former Chairperson, Aiono Mose Sua and Commissioner Auelua Samuelu Enari, the Cabinet appointed Nonu as a Commissioner to assist Lauano.
Lauano’s three-year term in office expired in April 2022 but was extended so she can lead the P.S.C. following the resignation of her predecessor Aiono.
Nonu was appointed by the Cabinet in October 2021.
Fiame acknowledged Lauano for her years of service not only in the P.S.C. but other Government offices where she was previously employed.
Other appointments that were announced were two new members of the Remuneration Tribunal which include new Chair Tuala Farani Chan Tung replacing the late Aliimuamua Esefia Solofa.
Aliimuamua passed away leaving the Chair position vacant for sometime.
The second new member appointed by the Cabinet is Muaausa Joseph Walter who is also a co-opted member on the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.) Council.
The third member of the Tribunal is Tuiloma Sina Retzlaff who was appointed by Cabinet in October last year to replace the late Matataualiitia Afa Lesa who will continue to serve alongside the new appointees.
