The University of the South Pacific (USP) has again made it into the World University Rankings in the overall category as well as physical sciences and social sciences.

The World University Rankings 2022 has given a “Overall University” ranking to the USP of 100-1200, physical sciences (ranked 601-800) and social sciences (501-600).

According to a press release issued by the USP for the first time, business and economics have also been included and ranked 501-600.

The university's ranking in the areas of physical sciences and social sciences bands is the same as in the 2022 ranking.

USP Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia said in the press release that by achieving the rankings in these three subject areas is a great achievement and he is proud of the university, staff and research students, who despite the challenges they faced have worked hard by publishing in top-tier research and academic journals.

He added that their research publications had immensely contributed to achieving these prestigious rankings in not one but three subjects provided at the University.

“This achievement also indicates USP commitment to delivering quality education in conducting innovative research which is the foundation of our Strategic Plan,” said Prof. Ahluwalia.

“To be ranked second time in a row and in the new area of business and economics is a testament to the hard work our staff and students are continuously doing that places us in these rankings.”

This is the second year for the regional university to get into the rankings which puts it ahead of some of its region-focused peers.
