If you fail to plan, you plan to fail
Dear Editor,
The Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi Chairman has reacted strongly to the Human Rights Protection Party's discussions for an alternative Speaker of the House.
Let's assess the situation.
It is public knowledge that the cabinet is seeking clarification from the courts on the constitutional provisions to remove the current Speaker.
At the same time, HRPP is also challenging the legality of the Speaker's decision to participate in a recent constitutional amendment vote in Parliament.
The Speaker has also lost 5 consecutive court cases that challenged his decisions and interpretation of the Constitution and laws of Samoa.
Based on these facts, it is only natural that political discussions on contingencies for a Speaker take place.
It is the commonsense thing to do!
Maybe the breakaway Party Chairman would like us to wait until the electricity supply is fully restored or his court case is decided.
Or maybe when snow starts falling on Mount Silisili.
As a wise politician once said, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
It is this type of reactionary leadership and lack of foresight that has landed us in this mess today.
No plan, just all talk and no action!
Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi
Leader of HRPP
