Everything is an opportunity to learn.
I was very happy when Joseph Parker came on top of the fight against this gutsy American Jason Bergman.
Thanks to the American for allowing this fight to happen in Samoa.
There were some good points/characters I witnessed from the fights that night. These give us hope of improving boxing in Samoa as we all want.
1. The guts (loto toa) shown by this ulupo man from Samatau (Gogosina Ulutoa), this guy man…. even many punches landed on his face, he was still no retreat no surrender. He kept on moving forward no matter what. From this man’s performance, this is what is lacking from many of our boxers these days. They have other qualities of a good boxer but they still need this ulupo’o man’s guts and style.
2. Warren Fuiava and Tone Fereti was the fight of the night for me. Apart from Parker and Bergman, I have to say to Fuiava and Fereti “fa’amalo ia oulua uso le ta’aalo fa’atausala, fiafia uma Samoa i le lua ta’aloga.
I thought it was a classic response when Monty Betham asked Fereti a question in English after the fight and he just ignored the question and answered in Samoan, a language he was comfortable with. Good on you Fereti. I wish you both the best in the near future. As for Sky TV, hire some translators if you want boxers to be interviewed… just a thought.
Fa’afetai tele to all the boxers and organisers of the event.
Manuia le aso,
