New Head of State takes Office

Samoa’s 4th Head of State since it became Independent His Highness Tui Aana Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II spent his first in the office yesterday.

Witnessed by government leaders from the Prime Minister his Cabinet, Parliament, Members of the Judiciary Branch, the Diplomatic Corp, prominent members of the public families and relatives, His Highness Tuimalealiifano has sworn that he will serve the nation with humble and love.

Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, His Highness predecessor was also present to welcome his successor to the prestigious Office he held over the last 10 years.

Chief Justice His Honour Patu Falefatu Sapolu was tasked with the swearing in duties.

Before his appointment as Head of State, Tuimalealiifano served as a Member of the Council of Deputies for 28 consecutive years.

He is 70 years old.  A lawyer by profession and a former Samoan police chief inspector , he is also a secondary school teacher. 

His Highness holds a bachelor degree in Law from the Australian National University and a diploma in theological studies from Malua Theological College.
