New title holders at Faletagaloa, Safune

Twelve new matai title holders from the village of Faletagaloa celebrated the beginning of their journey on Friday.

Held at Lalomati, Faletagaloa, the new titles bestowed were Moana, Se’aumali’i, Va’aelua, Oloapu and La’ulu. 

 The last time they had a bestowal ceremony was back in 2003. 

Reverend Poloma Eteuati and Reverend Vaueli Sanerivi blessed the new title holders and wished them all the best on their new journey. 

They were reminded to serve their families and village with love and honour and to take pride in the titles they now carry.

Oloapu Reupena Moana, one of the new title holders said this is a great beginning to his year. 

“I am so happy and grateful to God for He made this possible for our family,” said Oloapu. 

“We’ve been planning for this special occasion for so long and now that it is finally over, I give Him back all the glory because he deserves it.”

Moreover, Oloapu Reupena said he is now ready to serve and will honour the title given to him.

“I am very honoured to be recognized by my family and by giving me this title. It means a lot and I am going to carry this title with so much pride because it speaks of who I am and where I come from.

“This is a perfect start to my year. I know it’s not easy and that the title comes with a lot of responsibilities, but I know with God and my family by my side, I will be able to overcome any challenges along the way.”

New title holders:

Moana title - Moana Niutao, Moana Tiagogo, Moana Mareko, Moana Kapeteni, Moana Solinuu, Moana Tupou, Moana Lopesi.

Seaumali’i title – Seaumali’i Piuila

Va’aelua title - Va’aelua Mefiposeta Pula and Vaaelua Tufa

Oloapu title - Oloapu Reupena 

La'ulu title - Nua La'ulu Nua Tailo.
