Dreams of a wellness guru: Patrick Kell and sister Fala Kell show off Samoa to girlfriend Eranur Shahdd.

Being mistaken as an employee at the S.T.A fale has its benefits as was the case for this writer yesterday.

Patrick Kell and his entourage asked us to point them in the direction of the S.T.A fale and also check to see if they had missed the beginning of the scheduled cultural show.

Feeling relieved to find that the show was to start on island time, Patrick was eager to sit down with us and tell us about their visit and his future plans for Samoa.

“I am here with my sister, Fala and also my girlfriend Era who is Malaysian,” he said.

“I’m half Samoan and we have a little family reunion going on; only part of the family is here. Also I wanted to bring my girlfriend Era to see Samoa, because we live in a small island in Thailand called Koh Samui.

“Koh Samui is one tenth of the size of Samoa and I just wanted to show her Samoan culture and look for opportunities possibly in the future to do some stuff here because I am involved in tourism in Thailand.”

Patrick and Era met and fell in love at the 28-day yoga teacher training course about six years ago in Thailand. The couple had similar goals in promoting health and wellness which developed into a business partnership. Patrick is enthusiastic about replicating their success in Samoa.

“I’d love to come here,” said Patrick. “My thing is to promote health and wellbeing in Samoa because I own an organic café which caters to vegans and vegetarians but we also have therapists and Koh Samui is well known for yoga retreats.”

Era has enjoyed Samoa and has been pleasantly surprised at what she has found.

“It’s very clean  and very organized and has a good infrastructure. I was very surprised because I thought I was going to be in a jungle,” Era laughs.

“It feels very calm and everybody smiles. It feels like a really happy place and we went to Taumeasina to have some food there, I tried oka which is refreshing on a hot day. It’s a beautiful resort.  Samoa is a very relaxing and a clean place.”

Both Patrick and Era are excited about looking into replicating their health and wellness business from Thailand, here in Samoa.
