Money transfer company Pacific Ezy made a generous donation of $5000 to the Mapu-i-Pulotu Home of the Age Charity work in Savaii.

The donation could not have come at a better time as the charity group was fundraising for the completion of the second elderly home in Samoa. Magele Dan Ah Ku, the Country Manager for Pacific Ezy, praised the efforts of the members of Mapu-i-Pulotu and stated that the donation was a way to show appreciation to the community, particularly the elderly group in Savaii.

"This is a continuation of our service , so we can give back to our community," he remarked.

The Mapu-i-Pulotu Home for the Aged Charity Group was founded by former students of the Logo-i-Pulotu College in Vaiaata, Savai'i. The college had closed its doors in 2000, but the bond between the students remained strong. The idea to set up a facility for the elderly on Savai'i was something that the association agreed upon, and thus, the charity group was born.

Tuilimu Manuele Paletasala acknowledged the financial assistance by Pacific Ezy and the committee was grateful for the support and continued to reach out to the community for donations and assistance.

"We are very grateful with the heartfelt donation by Pacific Ezy, there is still work to be done and we hope by the end of this year, our home for the elderly will be up and running," stated Tuilimu who is also the President of the Mapu-i-Pulotu Home of the Age Charity Group.

The fundraising efforts started with a reunion of former students in New Zealand and Australia. The estimated cost of the work that has been done for now 5years is close to 2 million dollars for the construction of the elderly home. With the help of various businesses and sponsors, the group was able to construct a building with up to 24 new rooms going to 40 rooms, including old classrooms that were repurposed for residential use.

The donation from Pacific Ezy money transfer was a significant boost to the charity group's efforts, bringing them one step closer to completing their elderly home. They also received $20,000 from the Government in March this year. The funds are part of the Government's assistance to help with social development as part of its focus areas in Samoa’s Pathway for Development.

With the construction of the facility well underway, the committee was hopeful that they would be able to provide a comfortable and safe home for the elderly in Samoa especially in the Big Island of Savaii.
