The Devil is in the Details
Think a minute…We’ve heard the expression, “The devil is in the details.” In World War II, General Dwight Eisenhower was the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces who defeated Adolf Hitler and his massive Nazi army.
Eisenhower was the mastermind of the largest military attack in history which landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. England’s Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, said that at that moment Eisenhower was the most powerful man in history.
Interestingly, Eisenhower said: “It’s not the big decisions that are the most difficult, it’s the details.”
Truly successful people “sweat the small stuff”. They know that getting the details done right makes the difference between success or failure.
We need to use our head—all of it! First, we must learn to use the right side of our brain, which is where we get our dreams, purpose and motivation for living our life to the fullest.
The great writer Oliver Wendell Holmes said: “Many people die with their music still in them…Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out.”
Sadly, many people die before they actually live their dreams or express their creative side. It is after we discover our purpose in life that we are then filled with a passion which drives us toward real success and satisfaction.
However, even when we know our purpose and have the passion to go for it, we still need discipline to actually work out the details and get it done. That is where the left side of our brain comes in: to organize the daily details and steps we must take to fulfill our life’s purpose and actually make it happen.
We must always use our head—both right and left brains. You could say that our left brain is the conductor of our right brain’s music.
A wise, successful person advises that three good ways to activate and use all of our brain are to set goals, work hard, and play hard.
But the real key to our head is our heart. Until we admit that we need our Creator to take charge and lead our life, including our mind and attitudes, we can never clearly understand our life’s purpose and how to fully use our abilities He gave us.
Today, won’t you ask Jesus to forgive you for living your own way? He will help you start living His way—which is the only way that you can get the right details done to reach your potential and live your life to the fullest. Just think a minute…
