Public welcomes Australia's call for Parliament to sit
Atoaga Afoa, 63, Siumu
"I strongly support what the Australian government is saying for Samoa to convene Parliament straight away. If it is necessary then the court case result is quite clear that the FAST party have the number to convene Parliament so I believe Samoan Parliament must convene by now. It’s for the benefit of the people and not for any political party."
Samuelu Brown, 28, Vaitele –Fou
"I agree with the appeal that the Australian government is making. For us Samoan people, we have being waiting for so long to see who’s going to lead the country and which side will run the Parliament for the next five year. People are waiting for ages for something to happen but nothing so, yes, it is a must and the Samoan Parliament must convene."
Sie'a Ropati, 27, Faleasiu
"My own opinion about this issue is that the Samoan Parliament must be formed by now, because no matter how long it takes for the politicians to put an end to all these matters, there is always an answer for all the questions that we seek for. It is better to convene now and make it simple than taking the long and hard road that doesn't suit anyone in the end. The Australian government is right and our Parliament should be convened."
Maria Seiloga, 45, Leauvaa
"The Samoan Parliament was supposed to convene a long time ago after the national election was held in April. It is clear that the FAST party has the majority of the seats and they are new parliamentarians. Now Australian and other countries in the world are commenting on our political affairs because it is taking forever for our Government to resolve these issues. I agree with what the Australian Ministers said about our Parliament sitting."
Lino Maselino, 28, Vaiusu
"One hundred percent I agree with what the Australian government said that the Parliament should have sat. If the rule was to convene inside 45 days then it should have happened. But because the FAST won the seat and the HRPP lost the elections, that is the reason why it is taking us forever to form a government. If it is the HRPP party that won the election with the same number of seats that the FAST party currently has, the Parliament would have immediately sat. But because they lost that’s why we are in this crisis."
Aiono Tifaga, 48, Fasitoo-Uta
"I don’t agree with what the Australian government has said about the need for our Parliament to sit. It’s none of their business to interfere with how we run our country. I support the process of the court cases that are currently in progress and we should wait until it’s all finished and settled then the Parliament should convene. Just go with the flow until the next five years so wait for all court cases to be completed."
