The Imagine Samoa group, in partnership with Science Circus Pacific and Australia National University, were at Saleimoa Primary School last Friday to host their science show.

Imagine Samoa and its partners are hoping that their science show will get more students interested in considering science fields as a career.

Year 8 teacher Sianaua Anae told the Samoa Observer that the majority of the Year 8 students weren't interested in science and maths.

However, she said holding the science show on Friday might perhaps change their minds about the subject.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to experience the fun of science because our students are not really into maths and science," she said.

"But seeing their reaction today, I hope they'll change their mind. I teach science for level 7 and level 8, and most of the kids do not like science.

"This program has certainly helped change the perspective of our students on what science really is. Seeing the joy and the smile on their faces ensures me that they are learning something from this science show.

"And I'm grateful to the group for choosing Saleimoa Primary as a host for their science show."

More than 50 students gathered at the school hall to watch the presenter, Suhayl Ale and his team performed various science experiments to draw the children's attention.

The students were engaged in all the experiments as they were all able to answer the presenter's questions afterward.

After a few demonstrations by the Imagine Samoa teams, students were divided into groups of five so they can perform the experiments on their own with Imagine Samoa assisting.

The team from Imagine Samoa said in a recent interview that they would like to raise awareness about IMAGINE Science and Technology Outreach programs and the sacrifices and dedication of the young people.

The young people are mostly university students (the National University of Samoa and the University of the South Pacific) who want to make a difference in the lives of the next generation of students in Samoa.

Imagine Samoa hopes to assist school science curriculums and inspire all students to carry on career paths in the sciences and inspire all students to become responsible, scientifically literate citizens who engage with science and embrace innovation and entrepreneurship to improve development outcomes.
