Vaitele Tigers secure semifinal berth with win over Falelauniu Titans
The Vaitele West Tigers proved too good for the Falelauniu Titans, winning, 22 - 12, during round 4 of the RICCOVID19 Rugby League Samoa competition.
Staged at the ACP Marist Stadium, Lotopa, the clash was intense between the two teams who were vying for a spot in the semi-finals next week.
But it was Vaitele who showed true grit to grind out the win.
West Tigers captain, McKenzie Junior Pisi, said he was extremely proud of his team's effort.
"It was a great win," he said.
"We thank Falelauniu for putting up a nice game and a tough one I shall say. We'll enjoy the win but we still have a lot of work to do for next week."
Pisi said discipline is a major challenge.
"Sometimes players would rather play using force or their body rather than the ball, so when their opponents retaliate in the same manner that's where conflicts start to come up," he said.
"The mindset is something that really needs a lot of work."
Looking at their upcoming challenge, Pisi said they would go back to the drawing board at training on Monday.
"We want to win this and we will try and prepare the best we can," he said.
"We wish all the other teams good luck for next week. Our main focus for next week's training will be our fitness and our discipline on and off the field. We also want a positive attitude."
