Vaigaga, Falelauniu gold medalists at Healthy Nanas comp
Vaigaga and Falelauniu have been awarded gold medals at the Healthy Nana cricket tournament at the Tuanaimato Cricket oval on Friday.
Deputy Australian High Commissioner, Julia Wheeler, officially opened the competition. Six teams took part in the tournament.
According to the International Samoa Cricket Association, the competition was more of a fun day than a competition.
Their idea was for the Nana's to make themselves active and exercise.
"This is not like other competitions where teams compete to win, it was more of a fun day for Nanas. Exercise their bodies to remain active, had fun, and most of all to come out to meet new nana's from other churches or communities," says Perelini Mulitalo, the Samoa Cricket Development Coordinator.
Participants are to undergo an interview based on how much their lives have changed and how the program has helped them.
"Members from each church undergo what is called "A life-changing" interview. They were asked how the program changed their lives for the better, in what ways did it help their families," says Mulitalo.
The results for their fun day competition are as follows:
Gold Medalists: Vaigaga and Falelauniu
Silver Medalist: Solosolo and Lepea
Bronze Medalist: Leulumoega teams 1 and 2. They also had special prizes for the teams, the best life-changing story went to Fiapito Asiasiga of Solosolo, eldest Nana went to Leonia Sa'u, most active Nana went to Ake Felise, the team of the day was Leulumoega team 2, and the most unified team went to Leulumoega Healthy Nana.
The prices for the competition were all sponsored by Vodafone and Business System Limited.
