Samoa is participating for the first time in the annual GJ Gardner Homes NZ Beach Volleyball tour in New Zealand.

President of Volleyball Federation Samoa Masuisui Kennaway Maisa expressed his gratitude towards the two teams and confirmed that Samoa is now eligible for other tour competitions.

"Samoa were fortunate enough to have been accepted to this highly anticipated competition and enter two teams that flew over last week Wednesday and the competition was held on the weekend.

"This means the team from Samoa is now eligible for this Pro-Tour annually. The Pro-Tour consists of 40 international teams," he said.

"Our team one, Eneliko Tui of Fagalii - a coach and a player, and Glen Julius of Aleipata and Moataa qualified for the Pro Division. While they did not secure a podium finish, the team showcased resilience and skill, demonstrating Samoa's growing presence in the sport.

"Our team one secured seventh place in the Pro's Division. Our team two, Lorenzo Maanaima of Fagalii and Tuputala Talia of Papauta secured the gold medal in the Men's Division One. Our players competed with determination and vigoor, stamina and poise against strong international opponents, gaining valuable experience and exposure on the professional beach volleyball circuit."

According to Masuisui, the competition provides opportunities for athletes to test and challenge themselves against highly qualified and experienced campaigners on the circuit.

"Further develop and hone their skill level and awareness for future tournaments, including the Pacific Games, Mini Games, Oceania and possibly Commonwealth and Olympics. The sky's the limit. We are now preparing for the final leg of the tour in Tauranga and look forward to continuing our progress. We are hoping to qualify also for the FIVB Pro Tour held in March 2025 in New Zealand."

Masuisui acknowledged everyone who helped them in any way possible.

"Thank you to the Government of Samoa, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ministry of Finance, and SASNOC for your overwhelming and continuous support thus far. Thank you to the people of Samoa for your kindness through prayers and ongoing support in helping our Volleyball Association to develop Samoa beach volleyball and nurture our young players to grow in strength and love for the sport of beach volleyball and enhance their knowledge of the game so they become flag bearers for Samoa in the future."
