Savaii Queens emerged victorious at the Rugby Festival hosted at Apia Park on Friday morning. Savaii Queens players are still in college and just finished exams.

Manager Talalelei Tuua Tamala said the team created history by playing in a tournament with just one substitute player.

"This is the first time for our team to play with this number of players but we did it. Glory goes back to God, now that it is over we will try and make it to the wharf to catch the last ferry to Savaii," she said.

"We all come from Savaii, we did not have time to train and prepare the girls for this event. They had exams for the last two weeks so we couldn't train them but I'm very happy with the outcome."

"Today's event is simply about breaking the silence and ending the violence against women and girls. I am glad that the day has ended on a high note. It was a fun day for everyone, good to see the inclusion of our people with disabilities, aumaga, and aualuma groups."

Participants at the Rugby Festival at Apia Park on Friday morning had a blast and called it a "fun day". There were five women's sevens teams, disability schools, Fa'afafine, Aualuma and Aumaga groups who were involved in the rugby festival.

Sani Iosua, a participant, said it was a great opportunity to include everyone.

"Watching our disability groups having fun on the field playing QuickRip was amazing. They probably enjoyed their time more than us cheering from the sideline. If there was any group that lived out the principles or core values of rugby taught during our three-day sessions, it would definitely be them," she said.

"I have been watching women who are older than me play their hearts out on the field and I asked myself, "How come they can do that and I am sitting here laughing?" The program today has made me realise that no matter how old you are or your size we can still do what makes our heart happy," said Tiresa Lua, a mother who came to support her child.
