Blues in a must win situation

Puleono Blues are working towards winning the second match of the Islands of Origin and pushing the Tumua Maroons into a decider.

The head coach for Puleono Blues Vaisigano David Masoe is hoping to correct their mistake from last week.

The Tumua Maroons snatched victory in the last seconds of the game. If the Maroons win the second clash, they would wrap up the series making the third match a dead rubber.

They have learned their lesson from their loss in their first clash at Savaii.

"Last week's game was a great lesson for us, as you know our Puleono Blues lost on their home soil. It's not something that we're proud of. The preparations towards that game was really high, unfotunately the performance from our players did not match up," he said.

"There were a few hiccups with our game plan. Our boys did not play up to the standard that we wanted. But the last game is history, so now we will go again and this time we hope that the game this week will improve. I know each player knows where they lack. We also have a change of players for this week in the hopes to win the match this week."

According to Vaisigano, they have five injured players from last week's match. They have called in substitutions.

"They have already been checked by the doctor and according to the doctor they need to rest for two to three days. But the match is on Saturday, so there is no time to train them after those days that's why we needed to call back some of our players who were on the training squad.

"There are three possible changes for the three who had serious injuries, but the other two have minor injuries. They are still training but we will look into whether they will be able to play this weekend."

"We are looking at cutting down our mistakes. As we saw in last week's game, mistakes cost us the game. There were a lot of knock-ons, fitness wasn't there, and other little things that added up.

"We are working on improving all that for this week's game against Tumua Maroons."

The second match of the Island of Origin kicks off at 3 pm at Apia Park on Saturday.
