U16 women to prepare for World Cup
Football Federation Samoa plans to host history makers to a homecoming, the Samoa U16 women's team for being the first-ever football team from the nation to qualify for a World Cup.
Acting chief executive officer Ravinesh Kumar said they are finalising a date. Most players in the team are based overseas.
"They will be coming because they will prepare for friendly matches against other countries competing in the World Cup. We would like to see and play them in different confederations and countries," he said.
"It is really important for our team to go out of our confederation and play with other teams. But for sure the girls will be coming to Samoa to prepare," he said.
"It is a historic moment for Samoa, no one thought that Samoa would feature in a FIFA World Cup, and the dream has come true. A big congratulations to the whole country, Football Federation Samoa, staff, board members, the president, and everyone involved. "
"Congratulations also to former players, former match officials, coaches, teachers, and those who have paved the way for this team. This is just the starting.
"This is a big moment and a big year for FFS. Our team will be playing the giants of the world. We will never know if we are in the pool with England, Germany, USA or Brazil. Samoa would be playing against them which is an honour for our country."
Kumar said the coach did a tremendous job, and he will forever be remembered by the people of Samoa as the first coach to qualify a team for the FIFA World Cup.
He believes their main focus now is on the preparations for the World Cup. They have at least 11 months to prepare for the upcoming World Cup in Morocco.
