Review of C.C.C.S. constitution underway
The Congregation Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.) is currently reviewing its constitution and compiling proposed amendments to be submitted to the Annual General Assembly next week.
A public notice signed by C.C.C.S. Secretary General, Rev. Vavatau Taufao confirmed that the church is undertaking the process to review its constitution.
Rev. Taufao had notified those sitting on the Constitution Amendment Committee that their work starts on Monday 12 September 2022 at the Malua meeting house.
There were no further details in the notice that was aired on the EFKS TV. The church’s constitution normally goes for review every 10 years.
The Malua annual conference is normally held in May each year but was deferred due to the rise in the number of COVID-19 community cases.
The conference is the biggest event in the church's calendar year, with its membership gathering at Malua for two weeks to discuss developments and issues facing the church.
Normally, members of the church from all over Samoa, New Zealand, Australia and the United States of America would assemble at the Malua Theological College compound for the event.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the church from abroad have not been able to travel to Samoa for the annual conference. They were able to join last year's conference virtually.
Following the church's announcement in May of the postponement of its annual conference, Rev. Taufao said that the church took into consideration the time that will be given to members of the church to prepare for the conference.
Samoa officially opened its borders in August enabling those residing overseas to visit the islands after its borders closed for more than two years due to the pandemic.
Another topic that will be on the C.C.C.S. agenda when it meets next week is the election of its Secretary General.
The C.C.C.S. is the biggest church denomination in Samoa and has a membership of over 70,000. The church recently celebrated 192 years of the arrival of Christianity at Sapapalii E.F.K.S. which was a milestone that attracted thousands of church followers from abroad and locally.
