Samoa Stationery and Books (S.S.A.B.) has continued its support as a major sponsor of the Samoa Observer Tusitala Short Story Competition.

The company's support of the annual writing competition continues 11 years after the competition was first launched.

S.S.A.B. Chief Executive Officer, Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai in a statement announcing her company's continued support for the short story competition, highlighted the importance of literacy and writing.

“S.S.A.B. has always been a true believer in literacy and given the pandemic it is very important that we give our children opportunities to have a zeal for writing," Tofilau said.

"Also, to utilize their talents in terms of their imagination."

This ongoing promotion for literacy and education is driven by Tofilau’s passion for education.

The 2022 Tusitala Story Competition is the best platform to show abilities of our young writers through the theme “Change” or “Suiga”.

Tofilau together with other co-sponsors are using all media outlets to promote the Tusitala Story Competition with the hope to get a high number of entries from enthusiastic participants in primary schools and colleges on both Upolu and Savai'i.

“As a flag bearer for literacy in Samoa, the goal of this competition by Samoa Observer, S.S.A.B. and other sponsors is to promote the importance of our children’s creativeness, to use their imagination to narrate their experiences during Covid as there has been a lot of changes,” Tofilau added.

The S.S.A.B. has been at the forefront of promoting literacy in Samoa over the years through its various education-support projects including new libraries. The company has also contributed to the development of literacy through monthly promotions that offer discounts on all educational resources and reading books.

Tofilau acknowledged the Samoa Observer for spearheading the short story competition, to motivate children of all ages and to promote the mantra that education is the key to success, and understanding every subject they plan to undertake in the future.

“A big fa’amalo to Muliaga Jean Malifa, Savea Sano Malifa, your coordinating team Jane Vaafusuaga, management and staff," the S.S.A.B. CEO said.

"Thank you for your passion to continue this competition to enhance the writing of Samoa’s children."

The S.S.A.B. CEO also acknowledged the companies and partners who support the Samoa Observer 2022 Tusitala Competition 2022.

"Malo lava le loto fesoasoani i nai a tatou fanau lalovaoa!"

Tofilau added that she is looking forward to this year’s competition and hopes there will be a huge number of entries from schools all over Samoa.
