Vaimauga No. 2 opens district centre
The Vaimauga No. 2 Constituency officially opened its District Committee Centre with the Minister of Women Community and Social Development, Leota Laki Sio witnessing its unveiling.
Located at the old Moata'a Primary School building in Moata'a, the event was attended by representatives and matai from the villages that make up the constituency, namely Moata'a, Vaiala, Vaivase Tai, Vaivase Uta, Levili, To'omatagi and Vaipuna.
Reverend Semikueva Fa'atoafe of the Congregational Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.) parish at Moata'a led the ceremony with a small sermon to bless the newly opened office of the district.
The Minister addressed the gathering and congratulated the Chairman and Committee members of Vaimauga No. 2 for their hard work and the effort that went into completing what he described as a "wonderful project".
He also applauded the unity within the constituency in delivering the project and thinking about the benefits that will roll out to the constituents.
"A lot had been said about this project when it was first initiated," said Leota. "Many did not think that it would happen and doubted the Government's ability to fulfill the promise they made to the people about this project.
"This is why today's event is very important as it proves that the Government is walking the talk.
"However, this would not have been made possible if it weren't for the support from the community lending their shoulders and hands, supporting the different initiatives by our Government.
"After all, it is all for the benefit of our people and country and for generations to come."
The Minister also wished the constituency well with their future plans in utilising the funding from the project for the development of the constituency as well as the country.
He urged the committee and the constituency to make good use of the project's funding to create and formalise projects, which will benefit families and provide opportunities for the children of Vaimauga No. 2 and Samoa.
The committee members were also unveiled on Thursday as part of the program, who will be in charge of implementing the projects for the constituency.
Boxes of hygiene products were also distributed to the different villages as part of the project while they await the disbursement of the $1 million tala grant to kick start their projects.
The Vaimauga No. 2 office is fully air conditioned and fully furnished.
The M.P. of the constituency Leanata'i Victor Tamapua, who is also the Chairman of Vaimauga No. 2 Committee, acknowledged the support from people of the community and also the different villages within his constituency.
