The Unit Trust of Samoa (UTOS) Board and Trustees have declared their largest ever payout of $7.50 Million to their unit holders for the financial year ending 30 June 2022.

The record payout by the Government-owned investment vehicle was announced in a statement that the UTOS distributed to the media on Wednesday.

This payout will benefit about 4,300 unit holders of UTOS based on their unit balance as at the end of June 2022. This will be largest payout declared by the organisation since it started operation in 2010.

Each unit holder will be entitled to receive 8 sene per unit from this payout with the total returns to unit holders for this financial year amounting to 9.25 per cent. This comprises a 4.52 per cent dividend yield and 4.73 per cent capital growth from the increase in unit price over the period.

The UTOS statement advised that all unit holders will be able to make their dividend choice between 8 July 2022 and 7 October 2022 with the payment accessible through online access, the UTOS mobile app or visiting their office.

According to the UTOS management, it has been a challenging year but they remain committed to delivering positive results for the unit holders despite the impact and challenges of the ongoing economic disruptions.

"During the year, the Trust has undertaken significant local and regional investments which will continue to enhance its overall investment portfolio performance in the long run.

"To this extent, the future outlook of the Trust remains promising for its existing and future unit holders."

The UTOS management said it continues to work tirelessly to ensure that unit holder confidence remains high reflecting effective customer service and positive financial performance.

The ability of the Trust to continue to make dividend payouts year on year is a testament to its commitment and diligence to its unit holders.

Speaking on behalf of the UTOS Board and Trustees, CEO Tevaga Viane Tagiilima conveyed his gratitude to all unit holders and stakeholders who continue to invest in the Trust Fund during these challenging times.

He then assured all the unit holders that the management and staff of UTOS will perform to their utmost to pursue and secure rewarding investment opportunities for them.

UTOS is a private trust owned by the unit holders with its assets entrusted to a trustee company which holds in trust the funds of the unit holders.

These funds are invested into a diversified portfolio of assets ranging from term deposits, government guaranteed lending to the Government of Samoa, and shares in privately owned companies both local and across the region. Its social objective is inclusivity; allowing for accessible and affordable investment for ordinary Samoans. Its commercial objective is to generate sustainable returns for the unit holders from a risk assessed and balanced investment portfolio.
