Vodafone Samoa celebrated its two-year anniversary on Monday with its C.E.O. using the occasion to emphasise the critical role of connectivity in Samoa's development.

The telecommunications company began operations in Samoa on 4 April 2020 after it took over the operations of previously Government-owned BlueSky Samoa.

Vodafone Samoa C.E.O. Nofoasaefa Satish Sharma emphasised the critical role of connectivity in Samoa and how his company has changed lives locally since its arrival in the country.

“‘Together We Can’ places an emphasis on ‘we’ and how collaboration between the human spirit and innovation can achieve great things,” Nofoasaefa said in a statement.

A consumer research survey by the company revealed the role of technology in changing people’s lives, according to the Vodafone Samoa statement.

"Findings identified how technology has evolved from something that simply excites the people of Samoa on a personal level to playing a more meaningful part in the world and most importantly here in Samoa, in particular, in making a difference on issues such as societal development.

"Over the past years Vodafone’s Together We Can message has been set in motion by the company’s deployment of enhancing network connectivity to people and communities alike, embracing communications technology to support education, health and wellbeing (sports) to create a more inclusive society."

Nofoasaefa added that the experience over the past two years during the COVID-19 crisis has demonstrated the critical role of connectivity and technology to keep society, businesses and Government connected.

"As a purpose-led company, Vodafone fundamentally believes that technology can improve lives, and this new positioning builds further momentum to our purpose to connect for a better future and enable an inclusive, sustainable digital society,”

Unit Trust of Samoa (U.T.O.S.) owns 25 per cent of Vodafone Samoa with the other 75 per cent owned by local and overseas investors with Fiji’s Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited being the parent company.
