The Opposition Leader Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi was readmitted at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole National Hospital on Tuesday night.

The readmission of the former Prime Minister was confirmed by the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.) Secretary and Member, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi in a brief interview with the Samoa Observer on Wednesday.

Leala said the H.R.P.P. leader spent the night at the hospital and is currently under observation.

"I went to see him this morning and he is okay," said Leala. "According to the doctor, Tuilaepa was admitted for another check up and they said that dehydration might be the reason he needed to be brought in.

"But he is now stable and okay at the moment."

Leala also confirmed that the 76-year-old veteran parliamentarian will be flying out of the country for a medical checkup in New Zealand on Saturday.

"The doctors recommended that he should rest and take some time off from work so he can fully recover and so he will be going overseas for a full medical checkup."

Tuilaepa was admitted to the hospital over four weeks ago for observation.

The following week after he was admitted, the Health Minister, Valasi Tafito Selesele instructed the Director General of Health to prepare the necessary documentation for him to be medevaced overseas for a medical check.

But his travel was delayed as Samoa's international borders closed following the discovery of multiple positive COVID-19 cases last month.

Tuilaepa was advised by the doctors to rest for three months after he was hospitalised last month. However, that did not stop him from attending parliamentary session when parliament convened last week.

This is  a developing story...
