Fasito'o-Tai performs ifoga in front of Government building
More than 10 matai from the village of Fasitoo-Tai congregated in front of the Government building around 9.30am Wednesday morning to perform a traditional ifoga (apology).
The elders were there to deliver an traditional apology to Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa and her Cabinet on behalf of a matai from their village who spoke ill of Samoa's new Government on social media.
They were joined by women and untitled men from the village.
At 10.00am the high chiefs of the village were covered by a fine mat (ietoga) outside the Government building.
However, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Laauli Leuatea Schmidt, immediately walked towards them and removed the fine mat and invited them inside, just as the Prime Minister and other Cabinet Ministers had arrived.
They all assembled inside on the ground floor of the 5 storey Government building for the formalities.
The Agricultural Minister spoke on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, informing the village that they have accepted their apology.
The village of Fasitoo-Tai also announced their support of the Government and vowed that they will not allow anyone from the village to speak ill of the new Administration again.
This is a developing story.....
