Seuamuli family welcomes new title holders
Descendants of the Seuamuli title from Falevaӧ in Fagamalo, Savai'i welcomed 24 new title holders on Tuesday morning.
Close to a hundred people gathered at Falevaӧ to witness the momentous occasion.
Reverend Taulotoga Viliamu of the Congregational Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.) at Fagamalo led the ceremony with a brief service, and to bless the new title holders for the Seuamuli title.
Amongst the new title holders was the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) of the Ministry of Health, Leausa Take Naseri. He was accompanied by his sister and relatives who traveled over to the big island for the special occasion.
This is the first time since 2008 the Seuamuli family at Falevaӧ has done a ceremony to bestow new titles for members of their family.
This was confirmed by the High Chief of the family, Seuamuli Fasi Toma, who is also the Member of Parliament for Gagaemauga No.2. and Associate Minister for the Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development.
Seuamuli Fasi spoke on behalf of the 24 new titleholders to thank the village and those who attended the ceremony.
He also used the opportunity to remind the new titleholders of his family that through their new titles, they should serve their family and village with love and humility.
Nevertheless, the new title holders were reminded by elders from the village of Fagamalo to carry their title with pride and honour.
The famous Samoan proverb "the path to leadership is through service" also echoed through the different speeches by the elders of the family and village of Fagamalo.
The special occasion was well attended by relatives who traveled from across the country to witness the occasion.
"We are grateful to God for He has granted us the opportunity to do what we have been wanting to do," Seuamuli told the Samoa Observer.
"We welcome the new matai of our family with open arms and we do hope that through this title, they will know their roots and serve our family and village with love and humility.
"The last time we had a saofa'i was in 2008 and we are grateful that we now have new matai to serve our family and to look after and continue our family legacy within the village.
"I wish them all the best as they embark on this new journey and I hope that they will carry the title Seuamuli with pride and joy."
