Police have arrested the Assistant Election Commissioner, Afualo Daryl Mapu, after a raid on his home netted hard drugs, guns and cash.

Afualo and another female employee were on Tuesday at his Nuu-fou home, the Deputy Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo, has confirmed. The woman has not been identified.

Police confiscated an unspecified quantity of methamphetamine, firearms and cash from the same property.

“We received a lot of complaints from the public regarding this household and we had to act,” said Auapaau.

“The household has been on our radar for quite some time and when we received the complaints we acted and moved in last night.”

The police operation is the second raid this month during which hard drugs were seized from two different households in the Faleata area.

Only two weeks ago, police raided a family home in Vaitele-fou where 19 grams of illicit drug namely meth was found on a private property on the Maali Street.

The same property was raided in July this year when Police were able to confiscate and seize drug paraphernalia, guns and cash valued at more than $20,000.

Eight suspects including one woman were also arrested at that time and taken into Police custody.

Suspects from that raid are scheduled to appear in court in January.
