Court dismisses petition against Manuleleua
The Supreme Court has struck out a petition against Manuleleua Paletasala Tovale after it found that a count of bribery against the recently elected M.P. could not be sustained.
Former M.P. Salausa Dr. John Ah Ching filed two bribery charges against Manuleleua where the other count struck out when that witness did not appear in Court.
Chief Justice, His Honour Satiu Simativa Perese and Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma said the one charge of bribery could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
Manuleleua a Faatuatua ile Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) won the recent election for the Faleata 1 seat.
The decision from the Court is the first petition that was struck out on the day of the trial .
Manuleleua was accused of giving $100 tala to a woman from Seesee who claims it was given to her to buy food.
But when she took the stand to give evidence she told the Court the money was done to corruptly influence her for the election.
This was not her claim made in her written affidavit following April's general election.
Salausa was represented by lawyer Tuatagaloa Shane Wulf while Fuimaono Sarona Ponifasio acted for Manuleleua.
