A peaceful march for women in Parliament

Faigaumu Lauina, 72, Lepa

The most important thing about today is to be happy and have peace, not hatred but follow our Lord Jesus' Commandment to love each other as you love yourself. On behalf of all the fathers that attended today, I want to say that the turn up of women and ladies this morning is sensational. This proves that women can do anything and nothing can stop them. So we should give them six chairs in the Parliament, it's important.

Taofi Saleaumua Togi, 22, Letogo

This is a wonderful day for us to come and support the ten percent for women's seats in Parliament. I agree that it should be six women in the Government. So the ten percent is not fully complete and it should be fulfilled before starting the new Parliament. I support the HRPP and I want more women in the Government.

Mareta Purcell Apineru, 45, Fagalii-Tai

Today is a very important day for us mothers not only us who support HRPP but all the mothers of Samoa. As we are fighting for the ten percent today, this is not just for the HRPP women and girls; it’s for Samoa today and tomorrow. So we are pushing the ten percent law to be satisfied.  The question is, why is the justice dismissing the case while it was already approved in the Parliament?  It is not a big number of women involved, just ten percentt but should be more to make it fair and square. So we are here to encourage Judges to do the right thing about the ten percent.

Logoasa Teo, 58, Leulumoega

I am very proud to be here to be a part of this march and to send our messages to the leaders of our country to have peace in their heart.  We are mothers, like irons that flatten wrinkles and solve problems in our country, so we want the fair and the right judgment. My candidate is a HRPP candidate so I’m here to support him and women with equal opportunities in the Parliament and everywhere.

Siniva Auelua, 63, Aufaga

It is a golden opportunity for me to be here today because I live in Australia but I’m still locked down here in our country. What I see today is hundred percent perfect not for the mean time but for the next generation to witness that mothers can solve issues and we are peace makers. We are here to make peace but I also support and want to complete the ten percent of women in the Parliament. That ten percent is equal to six women in Parliament.

Monette Mulipapa, 39, Saleapaga

We are here today to support the extra woman in the Parliament. More mothers and women in Parliament can give good advice to our leaders. We are mothers that make peace in the country, we march to show the world that we support each other, we are peaceful not violent. We believe that if we stay humble and work together in peace we will succeed and get the victory in the end.
