Head of State calls to convene Parliament
The Head of State, His Highness Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II has issued the writ to declare the official opening of XVII Parliament on Monday next week.
The proclamation from the Head of State signed on Thursday, 20th May, follows a decision from the Court of Appeal to dismiss a stay of execution motion on the dismissal of Aliimalemanu Alofa Tuuau as the 6th woman Member.
Aliimalemanu was the 26th representative for the Human Right’s Protection Party (H.R.P.P.), but had her seat declared void by the Supreme Court earlier this week on Monday.
Monday's decision broke the political 26-all deadlock that had been looming over the nation since April’s General Election and had left the country with no clear majority government.
Newcomer Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) now has the majority to form Government on Monday during the first sitting for the new Parliamentary term.
