The Samoa Adventist School in Lalovaea has started its annual Week of Prayer, to nurture the spiritual side of their students' educational development.

The school's annual Week of Prayer commenced earlier this week under the theme: "Moving Forward".

The school's Chaplain, Brother Evander Ah Far Tuaifaiva, told the Samoa Observer that the week was not new but is part of what the school calls holistic education, which includes students’ spiritual life.

Brother Tuaifaiva said they would invite different speakers from among Adventist Pastors and Pastors’ wives. This year they divided the school into quarters to complete the programme.

He said that by the end of the week, all students feel spiritually blessed and emerge with something important with application to their daily lives.

“And also our theme for this week of prayer is Moving Forward, that's the theme of this week of prayer is Moving Forward," Brother Tuaifaiva said.

“Basically we want to encourage our young people who are studying here at the Samoa Adventis School to bring some Biblical principles [into their lives],” he said.

“We need to encourage our young people in some ways in order for them to keep moving so that after this journey here in Samoa Adventist School, it won't be [the] end."

The Week of Prayer is not only for the school’s students; staff members also take part in the programme.

“Basically the week of prayer is a time that the teachers allow us to create a close relationship with God," the former student of the school said.

Brother Tuaifaiva said that once he reached high school, students were divided into groups and heard the Pastor sharing the message every morning.

Within these groups, he said students could ask questions to deepen their knowledge of their Bible.

"And that's [why I made] my decision to go and study to become one of the Ministers or one of the pastors in the future and here I am because of the help of this week of prayer into my life," he said.

The Chaplain encourages students to take the programme seriously as they and to feel the whisper of the Holy Spirit throughout the week.

The school will schedule a second Week of Prayer later this year.

The Chaplain said baptism is scheduled for the second event to reach a majority of students who are not Adventist followers and with whom they want to share and study the Bible.
