A digital form of Teuila Festival celebrations has not put a damper on plans by a taxi stand at Malifa to mark the week in their own way.

The Teuila Taxi Services has commissioned new sets of uniforms for its drivers and even decorated their building and the surrounding area with Teuila to mark the popular weeklong festival.

Teuila Taxi Services owner, Tuioti Tunufai, told the Samoa Observer that this is not the first time they have done something like this.

"We do this every year to commemorate Teuila ever since we started this taxi service because the name of the taxi service is Teuila Taxi Stand and it is the flower of our country," Tuioti said in an interview.

"Even though there is nothing much planned by the Government for this year's Teuila but we cannot stop celebrating Teuila.

"We cannot forget the flower that we are famous for which is why we decided on having new uniforms to commemorate Teuila Festival and we have also decorated the taxi stand with the Teuila flowers."

Tuioti explained that the planning and choosing of the uniform was done by the company board and had chosen it after there was consensus amongst all the drivers.

"The Taxi stand will remain decorated with Teuila until the Teuila festival is over which is what our taxi stand does ever since the taxi stand was founded," he said.

"We always prepare for the festival, from decorating the house and onto the signs, I don't know about other people in our country if they know this is the day we celebrate the Teuila Festival but our taxi stand always commemorates it."

Tuioti urged the country to give support as "we should celebrate the Teuila and everything that is planned for the festival even if it has been stopped."

"The most important thing as we have heard from the elders in our country, it is important to prioritise its importance, it is important to celebrate it," he said.

"If we aren't taking it seriously and not prioritising it then that means there is no importance to it.

"It is important to celebrate Teuila because of what we are facing right now due to COVID-19. The festival should still be done rather than waiting for tourists from overseas."

According to Tuioti, the Teuila Festival should still be celebrated because the festival is one way that the country receives blessings.
