Attorney General Lemalu resigns
Attorney General, Lemalu Hermann Retzlaff, has resigned to take up work opportunity in New Zealand.
His resignation was confirmed by Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Dr. Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, who is also the Minister for the Attorney General's Office.
Tuilaepa said the A.G's resignation came as a shock to him.
In acknowledging the work of Lemalu for almost four years now, Tuilaepa said there are opportunities in New Zealand for the Lemalu to advance his knowledge as a lawyer.
Lemalu met with Tuilaepa this afternoon where he tendered his resignation.
When the Samoa Observer approached him outside the Prime Minister's office after their meeting, Lemalu referred all queries to his Minister.
"The Prime Minister will discuss it," Lemalu told the Samoa Observer.
Lemalu's contract was extended after his three years contract ended in April last year.
In a press statement, Cabinet confirmed the extension is to continue the workload faced by the office including prosecuting the next group of 20 Congregational Christian Church of Samoa Ministers being charged with tax offences.
