The only All Saints Anglican Church in Samoa has held a church service to mark the last use of their parish hall before its demolition next week.

The service was led by Father Raymond Betham and attended by members of the congregation at Leififi on Saturday.

According to one of its church members, Adrian Reid, the hall is more than 60 years old.

“The hall plays a great historical significance to all of us members of the church,” he said.

Mr. Reid added that the facility served a number of purposes such as hosting a kindergarten school and scouts and rangers.

The church’s treasurer, Suela Cook, said that the hall was also used for weddings, funerals, and other church ceremonies.

“We have more than a hundred members and we feel special for being the only Anglican Church in Samoa,” she said.

Mrs. Cook added that the hall has so many fond memories while growing up.

Mr. Reid added that the demolition process starts next week and they will go step by step to build a new hall.

“We have a founding leaders of the scouts still here with us, Dick Bishop we call him Skipper.

“We also requested for anyone overseas and locally who wants to donate to building the new hall please feel free to contact us

“The cost of building a new hall is around $300, 000 because we intend to extend it and make it bigger.”

Another member of the church, Reverend Papali’i Sonja Hunter, said that the hall is very important to their church’s members because they grew up while using the hall.

“The hall was a roof which we all came under for spiritual lessons that helped guide us in life. It gave us strength from the Lord while going so many obstacles in life.”
