Leififi College's top student Solomontis Tavita performed a clean sweep for seven top prizes in the 2019 academic year.

The aspiring doctor's impressive feat came as no surprise as he has been topping his classes since Year 9. 

Solomontis topped computing, physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, Samoan and English subjects.

His mother, Naomi Letalie Tavita, who is also a business studies teacher at the school, claimed her 18-year-old son's trophies on his behalf jointly with his siblings, as he enjoyed a holiday overseas.

"We are grateful and proud of our son's achievement," she said.

"Right from Year Nine, he would top all his subjects and we could not be prouder.

"But we thank God always for the wisdom and knowledge he has blessed our son with."

The son of Naomi and Protista Tavita is the eldest of seven children and he has done most of his schooling in Malifa, from Apia Primary to Leififi College. 

Now he will be in the National University of Samoa University Preparatory Year programme, vying for a spot in the scholarship list to pursue a career as a doctor.

"As a parent all we want for our children is to have a bright future and live comfortably, and want we want for them isn't always what they want," she said. 

"But [Solomontis] is a science student and I have asked him what he's trying to pursue and he had told me that he aims to be a doctor in the future."

A teary Mrs. Tavita thanked all members of their family and their village Church Minister who had been praying for and supporting Solomontis.

Solomontis is from the villages of Gagaeifo Lefaga, Utualii and Vaimoso.

Other top achievers from Leififi included Aniva Sosene in second place and Sina Saumani for third place. 

Leififi College held their prize giving on Friday for the Year 13 classes only, while the lower levels only get their reports given out.

A few Colleges around Samoa are making use of the few weeks before schools officially starts to host prize givings as they were unable to do so due to the measles epidemic.
