Close to 200 students at Saint Anglican Primary School gave back to their fathers for their proud support throughout the year at a school Father's Day event yesterday. 

Held at the St. Anglican compound, the school's principal, Rachel Solomona, said it was always a pleasure to see parents and especially fathers proudly supporting the school.

“We’ve identified that when parents are involved in their children’s’ educations, those are the children that often do best,” she said.

“It’s a good way to give back to the parents for a lot of work they’ve done for their children, as a lot of time they’re at work and it’s also an opportunity for them to play with the children.”

At the event were mostly young fathers attending to support their children while they present their Fathers’ Day presents and try their best to impress them.

Amongst the young fathers gathered were two, Tea Rodney Lavea and Paulo Junior Afuamua, who were moved and excited to be part of the programme.

“Firstly thank God for the opportunity today to spend some special moments with our children, it’s a new experience for me because this is my first born and just to see the programme and it’s a good message given by the archbishop; it was a really humbling experience,” Mr. Lavea said.

“So grateful for the school for holding such events that we got the chance to feel what we’re feeling today."

Mr. Afuamua said this is also his first time to be part of a social programme with his son and it has been wonderful.

“Thank God for this chance to extend the knowledge of the children through this programme, by learning and it’s a very important message to teach the students of the ways and paths they should be taking," he said.

The students presented presents to their father for Father's Day followed by more performances and a few activities with their fathers.

The parents have always been a really good crowd, according to Mrs. Solomona.

“The teachers can only do half the work but with parental engagements, we shouldn’t be able to help these children through life," she said.

"So hopefully with things like these, the bond is strengthened as we have a sports day later on whereby the fathers will help their children win points for their house competitions."

Mrs. Solomona has been the principal for St. Anglican school for three years now and so far she has interpreted that the school as “lovable” and “greatly challenging”.

The school staff of 12 teachers includes two volunteers from China and Kanah in Africa.
