Students and teachers from different Colleges in Samoa converged on the University of South Pacific (U.S.P.) Alafua Campus on Friday morning for the university's Open Day.

The students and teachers were keen on finding out what was on offer, in terms of undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes offered by the university. 

Trevor Bauelua, 32, a teacher at the Seventh Day Adventist College at Lalovaea, told the Samoa Observer that the Open Day was a good opportunity for the students to know more about U.S.P. and the study programmes they offered. 

“Coming here at the U.S.P. Campus at the Open Day, it's a great opportunity for my students of the Seventh Day Adventist College, especially the students who are leaving college this year and there is lots of good information for those who are graduates,” he said.

Mr. Bauelua went to the USP Alafua Campus Open Day with his college's Year 13 students (arts, commerce and science), and indicated that some of them plan to apply for the courses on offer when they complete college at the end of this year. 

“There have been a few students who plan to come here at the USP Alafua, and we have science, arts and commerce students."

Nineteen-year-old USP Alafua Campus student, Hairani Haini, said the university held an Open Day annually at the campus to showcase the study programmes on offer and get feedback from the students. 

“They have lots of interest in the campus, asking questions about the university and giving them the things we know about the U.S.P.,” he said.

For 18-year-old Osofua, who is the head boy of Lefaga College, he said he is a science student and finding out more about the university's science programmes was the reason behind him attending the Open Day. 

“Today I want to know more about science and what job that I can get in science because I am science students at Lefaga College."

Fifteen-year-old Shalom Peniamina, who attends the Sagaga College, said visiting the U.S.P. Alafua Campus Open Day is a good opporutnity for her to find out more about the study programme and to check out the possibility of enrolling for courses there after she finishes college. 

“For me it's an opportunity to experience what U.S.P. is and what would I study here at Alafua campus,” she said.
