Days away from the Pacific Games, the Methodist Church compound at Faleula is a hive of activities. 

Although the church has already presented the keys to the Pacific Games Organising Committee, the Reverends, their wives and families are not resting on their laurels. From dawn to dusk, they are kept busy to ensure the compound and the facilities are in the best shape possible when the Athletes begin to arrive. 

The Church Ministers are working tirelessly to clean, decorate, paint and add the final touches to the Games village.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, President of the church, Reverend Apineru Lafai, said the work is part of what the Church Ministers always do inside the compound. 

“The pastors working daily is not something new but it’s what we always do here in the compound and the Pacific Games is something that has been added to our calendar of this year,” he said.

“The pastors and their wives do not get paid for painting the walls and stuff like that.

"Most of them are teachers and officers in the compound or have real jobs other than cleaning the village.

 "They are still getting paid from their real jobs even if they’re taking the time to decorate and clean the village."

According to Rev. Lafai, the Church Ministers' houses will also host athletes.

“Some pastors have many children and when they can’t fit in the small houses at the back then they get transferred to their parents’ families back in the villages until the Pacific Games is finished,” he added.

The pastors on Wednesday were in groups to decorate and clean different areas of the village, with some painting the roadside while other groups of pastors worked on mowing the grass.

Not only that, pastors’ wives also played their part in decorating the houses with colorful plants and sorting out the furniture.

Rev. Lafai said their preparations for the Games are on track and they are very proud doing it for Samoa.
