Daylight savings in Samoa – which began September 30 last year – ends April 7 this year. 

Ministry of Commerce Industry and Labour  (MCIL) Chief Executive Officer, Pulotu Lyndon Chu Ling, confirmed this in a recent statement. 

“Pursuant to the Daylight Saving Act 2009 and Cabinet’s decision FK (19) 10, businesses and the general public are hereby advised that daylight saving time ends on Sunday 7^th of April 2019.

"The public is therefore advised that when the standard time strikes the hour of four o’clock (4.00am) on the 7^th April 2019, then all instruments used to measure standard time are to be adjusted/changed to three o’clock (3:00am). 

"However, we advice that you adjust your time an hour back before you retire to bed on Saturday 6^th April 2019." 

According to the Daylight Saving Act 2009 the Head of State, acting on the advice of Cabinet may declare any period of consecutive days as a daylight saving period.

"And for the purpose of subsection specify a number of hours, or parts of an hour, up to two hours; and subject to subsection, specify the date and time in which the daylight saving period starts and ends. 

"During the daylight saving period, the time for general purposes throughout Samoa will be in advance of the standard time by the number of hours, or parts of an hour, specified in the order.

"A daylight saving period declared under subsection shall start and end at a specified time that is between midnight on a Saturday and 6 a.m. on a Sunday."
