Fa’amati an extension of mother’s role

It’s that time of the year again.

The Fa’amati is an occasion to behold especially for women members of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa.

Since the beginning of the week, church members in Samoa and all over the world, have been walking the talk when it comes to giving to the church.

The event is annual one.

“This is not new,” said Asolelei Soloi, the wife of the C.C.C.S. Minister at Letogo said. “This has been in place since the church was established.”

The main purpose of the Fa’amati is to donate mats and other household items for the pastor’s house.

The gifts are donated by the Women’s Committee.

“Every woman has to put in something like a mat (falaliilii, papalaufala, papamalo) a towel, or anything.

“This is the part of our Women’s Committee donation to every faifeau’s family.”

Not only for the church minister and his family, the gifts are for the development of the Women’s Committee itself.

“We all know the important role of us (mothers). We look after everything within our families, not only our families but the church and village as well.

“So the Fa’amati is just an extension of that role.”
