The Philippines new Ambassador to Samoa, Jesus S. Domingo presented his credentials to the Head of State, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, yesterday. 

The Ambassador and his family were welcomed during an ava ceremony at the Head of State’s residence at Tuaefu.

In addressing the Head of State, the Ambassador said the Philippines enjoys the dynamic inter-regional relations with Samoa. “Our bilateral relations are healthy and are developing further.” 

Among the common priorities concerns Samoa and Philippines share are the environment, climate change, disaster Risk reduction and management maritime and Fisheries Cooperation, Biodiversity Protection and Preservation, education and tourism promotion. 

 “During my term as Philippines Ambassador to Samoa, I pledge to work more closely with your government,” he said. 

His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi welcomed the new Ambassador. He noted the growing Filipino community in Samoa has benefitted Samoans in many ways.

“The expertise and knowledge that they bring enhances the development aspirations of Samoa in sectors such as commerce, industry and tourism to name a few,” he said. 

“It is my pleasure to welcome you to Samoa and to receive your letter of credence appointing you as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Philippines to the Independent State of Samoa.”

His Highness congratulated Mr. Domingo and wished him the best.

Mr Domingo attended many prestigious Universities including the Harvard University of Cambridge in the United State of America, Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights University, with numerous academic achievements including masters of National Security Administrations, Doctors in Philosophy in Criminology, Master of Law in Armed Conflict amongst others. 

He began his diplomatic career in the 1990s and progressed to hold many key positions including postings such as a Minister for Humanitarian and Disarmament and a Consul General for the Republic of the Philippines in Geneva. 

He further undertook special assignments whereby he was the Head for the Gulf war Evacuation Secretariat from 1990 until 1991, head of the department of Foreign Affairs Typhoon Yolanada Action Centre and Secretary General for the National Council for UN Peace Operations from 2013 until present.
