Bronze medals for Samoa on Day Three

Faitasia Seuao secured the second bronze medal of the day for Team Samoa at the IBFC Universal Weightlifting Cup held at Gym One in Tuanaimato.

Competing in the Senior Men’s 77-kilogram category, he snatched 126 kg and lifted a successful 162 kg in the clean and jerk.

Seuao attempted 167 kg in his second and third attempts in the clean and jerk but did not quite make it.

Earlier in the day, Anoni Faumui won bronze medals in the senior women’s 63kg division at the IBFC Universal Weightlifting Cup.

She won bronze in the snatch and another bronze in the Universal Cup totals.

In the snatch, she opened at 80kg, missed 83kg on her first attempt, then succeeded on her second attempt to secure the bronze medal.

In the clean and jerk, she started with 100kg, lifted 103kg successfully, but failed at 105kg. Her combined total was 186kg, which earned her bronze in the overall Universal Cup standings.

Her medals were presented by Marcus Stephen, former president of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation, alongside Paul Coffa, vice president of the International Weightlifting Federation and secretary general of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation.

She stood on the podium with silver medallist Fatima Yakubu of Australia and gold medallist Femily Crystie Notte of Nauru.

Gold medal prospect Seine Stowers will be in action on Thursday.
