In a statement, the Samoa Wrestling Federation said, “A huge congratulations to every wrestler who stepped onto the mat. You have made the nation proud and kept the momentum going from start to finish.

“We also acknowledge President Jerry Wallwork for his strong vision and leadership, and coaches Yuta and Gaku Akazawa for their dedication to training and developing our athletes.

“We thank the Government of Samoa and SASNOC for their continued support of the sport and for hosting these championships. Finally, thank you to all our supporters for making this a championship to remember.”

Coach and competitor, Gaku Akazawa, said, “This success means everything to Samoa. Winning 34 medals on home soil isn't just about the numbers; it’s a testament to the hard work, discipline, and spirit of our athletes.

He emphasised that he is incredibly proud of every single wrestler who competed.

“They fought with heart from the mats at Tuanaimato to the sands of Maninoa, and they defended our home turf with honour. This is a proud moment for our Federation, our families, and our country,” said Akazawa.
