Possible water disruptions due to heavy rain
Water supply to homes may be disrupted due to ongoing heavy rain and flooding, says the Samoa Water Authority(SWA).
It explained that, due to heavy rainfall and flooding, water production will need to be reduced to prevent debris and contaminants from entering the filtration systems.
The authority strongly advises everyone to harvest and store rainwater in case of intermittent supply and to boil water that is drawn from the tap for extra precaution.
Last month, Heavy rainfall and flooding disrupted water sources across Samoa, affecting water supply in several areas, according to SWA.
The authority said that ongoing heavy rain had affected most water catchment intakes.
Moreover, the Samoa Meteorological Services issued a heavy rain advisory.
It was said that the moist northeasterly wind flow remains prevalent over Samoa. However, the latest satellite image indicates that the trough of low pressure remains to the west, bringing unstable weather conditions.
Therefore, anticipate isolated showers with periods of brief heavy falls in some areas, along with a few thunderstorms and gusty winds at times for today. Consequently, the heavy rain advisory is still in effect for all land areas of the country.
Potential impacts include heavy downpours with poor visibility, foggy and slippery roads over mountain passes and ranges, and pooling near roadsides and waterways. As well as strong gusty winds during rain.
