Lifters off to Peru

Two weightlifters will hit the rioad again as they hed to Lima in Peru for world championship and Weightlifting Samoa is hoping that the two will create ripples in South America.
“The junior team is ranked highly in the world and we are hoping there will be a medal for Samoa. The two lifters selected, one is female and a male to represent the country,” said Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork, president of Weightlifting Samoa.
Seine Stowers, 16-years-old, a student at Leififi College, from Fa’ala Palauli Savaii, will be carrying Samoa's hope at the world meet. Siene had an amazing competition at the Oceania Championships. She won two gold medals in the Women’s 77+kg category.
"After three years of training, I feel good, it is an honour to be able to represent my country in the upcoming games and travel to a new country and to compete with other teams from different countries. The tournament will be tough, but I am already prepared for what’s coming,” said Seine
Emmanuel Palota is an 18-year-old from the villages of Vaigaga and Pu’aPu’a and is currently a foundation student at the National University of Samoa. The young lifter also has a background of many awards.
“I thank God for this opportunity to be able to compete in the Junior World Championship. I am happy, as it’s been two years since I started weightlifting. The preparation for the upcoming games is going smoothly as we are camping at the moment for further training and preparations,” said Emmanuel Palota
Things will get busy for national weightlifters. In July, they have Pacific Mini Games and the Commonwealth Championships in August. These tournaments are all qualifying events to earn a spot for the Samoa weightlifting team in the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
