Darzan gets green light to travel to NZ

It's good news for the parents of baby Darzan Palemia who will now leave for New Zealand on the 20th of this month with his mother.

Darzan was born with a congenital heart disease. His life hung in the balance after getting government assistance for the treatment but the family still needed financial assistance for travel and visa expenses.

The child's father Palemia Pepa is the sole provider for their family of eight and he just started his new job as a porter at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital a couple of months ago.

In an interview with Samoa Observer, the grateful mother, Peniane said she thanked God for finally answering her prayers for her son to be taken immediately to NZ for urgent medical treatments.

A couple of weeks ago, the worried mother said she had noticed new symptoms shown by her baby boy because of his heart condition.

"Now and then I see my baby's lips getting black which is new and I'm so worried knowing that he should be taken immediately for overseas treatments," Peniane said in an earlier interview.

Darzan's treatments have been paid for by the government but the airfares for the baby and the mother with visas are paid for by the loving people who have offered to help.

Peniane said after a story about the delay of the cabinet FK to give the green light for the paperwork processing for her baby, the very next day she received a call from the airline agent who is paying for their airfares and visas that the FK was issued.

"I can't thank all these good samaritans enough, because without all the help and support from them and also the newspaper, it would not be possible to take my baby for treatments," she said.

Peniane and Darzan will fly straight to NZ on 20 April and will be escorted by a nurse from the hospital.

The oxygen that will be used on the aeroplane by Darzan has already been paid for by another good samaritan.

"I am relieved that baby and I will now be leaving for NZ and am praying for a successful treatment while we will be away from home," Peniane said.
