Baby Darzan awaits Cabinet decision
Six-month-old Baby Darzan's overseas medical treatment has been delayed due to direction from the cabinet, according to the infant’s family.
Darzan has a congenital heart disease known commonly as a ‘hole in the heart’ for which he required treatment in New Zealand.
Sad mother Peniane Palemia said she has been noticing new symptoms shown by her baby boy because of his heart condition.
"Now and then I see my baby's lips getting black which is new and I'm so worried knowing that he should be taken immediately for overseas treatments," she said.
Darzan’s treatment had been given the nod by the government and people had come together to pay for the mother and child’s ticket fares and expenses while in New Zealand.
Peniane said she thanked all the good Samaritans who have offered to help including a local travel agent assisting with the visa and airfares.
Peniane added that she will continue to seek confirmation from the Minister of Health of why the Cabinet FK had been delayed.
"Every day, I thank God for His healing mercies on my baby even though I now see some new symptoms. I still have faith that God will heal my baby," she said.
More good Samaritans are on standby to assist baby Darzan and his mother when it's time for them to leave for New Zealand.
Peniane said the travel agent who is paying for their fares and visas is awaiting the cabinet FK to process everything.
"I just hope that the FK will be ready this week because there's an urgent need to take baby Darzan for overseas treatments," she said.
Baby Darzan was born in September last year with a hole in his heart.
The parents were seeking financial assistance to take baby Darzan overseas and are grateful for the overwhelming support from people who contacted them when they saw the story published in Samoa Observer.
Cabinet FK refers to cabinet meeting directives which are part of the Ministry of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
