People in Savaii are applauding the establishment of the new Office of the Electoral Commissioner in Salelologa.

The new office which was opened last Thursday will now help cater to the needs of people in Savaii who are eligible to vote and needsto register.

Instead of coming all the way to Tumua, they now can access registration through the new OEC office which is located on the top floor of the Salelologa Market.

Electoral Commissioner Tuiafelolo John Stanley in a special service held during the opening said this was a milestone for the people of Savaii.

He said this was an initiative made to assist and make it easier for the people of Savaii to register and consult with officials on any matters pertaining to the next general elections.

Before, the Savaii people would have to travel all the way from Puleono to Tumua for registrations and other electoral matters.

Some Savaii people voiced their heartfelt gratitude for this initiative.

Talu Seumanufagai who used to travel back and forth from Savaii said this new office proves the saying that whatever is good in Upolu is also good in Savaii.

Ofeira Leaupepe also echoed the same sentiment thanking the OEC for having a new office in Savaii.

"It'll be much easier for us to get registered and seek other electoral matters while awaiting the general elections next year," she said.
