Faualo decries fake fundraising page
Minister of Police and Prisons Faualo Jeffrey Schuster claimed someone from the Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) Party created a fake page under his name with intentions to defame him.
Faualo during an interview on Wednesday said he knows for a fact that this person was just trying to ruin his reputation.
"I was never fundraising for a campaign and would never will," Faualo said.
"Ever since I ran as a member of parliament I never campaigned for people to vote for me, it's their own free will of who they vote for," he said.
Faualo said people nowadays are desperate for money and go out of their way to create such a mess to get what they want.
"I've never created a fundraising page and I know for a fact that it was one of those FAST supporters who did this to try and ruin my reputation," he added.
An urgent notice was posted by the FAST Government page a week ago, addressing this matter.
It said there are false and fake fundraising pages designed deliberately as smear campaigns against Faualo.
"These are false fraudulent and misleading pages on social media advertising that the Minister of Police has a fundraising page," the notice says.
"These are false!" The Minister does not have any page for collection of funds for any reason."
The notice came with a warning to the public not to fall for this fraud and people could victimised by the scams.
This fake fundraising page said Faualo was contesting the Vaimauga 4 seat under Fa'atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi banner as he totally believed that there needed to be a check on the unbridled power exercised and asked the public to bank all their donations to a certain account.
Faualo said he would never do such a shameful act asking voters and people for money.
"Why would I do that?" I've been running for three terms now and ready to run again for the election next and I have never asked or given out money as a way of campaigning nor fundraising to run as an MP," he said.
