Courtroom switched because of falling ceiling
A piece of the ceiling fell inside Supreme Court Room One on Tuesday raising questions about the safety of the members of the public. The incident happened while the court was in session.
Pictures showed that the ceiling had been water-damaged and as a result fell. No one was injured.
A trial that was supposed to be called in the courtroom was transferred to another courtroom for the safety of the public because of the condition of the ceiling.
It has not been clarified if the water was a result of the heavy sipping through the roof or because of the air-conditioning.
A woman who was present in Courtroom One said it was a disturbing look. She said the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration's should fo regular maintenance to ensure that everything was in working order.
"Who knows maybe other parts of the ceiling will fall again and will injure someone in the courtroom," she said.
A man present in the courtroom for his son's sentencing said buildings frequented often should be in proper condition.
He said this should be a priority for the MJCA maintenance team to make sure facilities used for court matters are well taken care of and maintained.
"I just can't believe that this is happening, ceiling is falling and the leakages outside of almost all the courtrooms are so disturbing to look at," this man told Samoa Observer.
During the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings preparations, Samoa Observer was able to interview Chief Executive Officer, Papalii John Taimalelagi about the leaking air conditioning units, wet waiting areas, non-functioning elevators and smelly restrooms.
He said in that interview that the maintenance team were working to make sure all courtrooms and elevators would be in working condition.
Samoa Observer can reveal that the elevators were still not functioning and also there are a lot of wet waiting areas at the court with leaking air conditioning units.
